Especially if they are Horribly worn out..and making huge clunking noises over any slight road irregularities is a serious warning sign. They get so badly worn and rusty that the ball 'pops' out of it's socket.. quality of Manufacture has little to do with it by that stage.. it takes years of absolute neglect.
Juniors car did that too... Minimal real damage but it did need a new Fender.
Source of the Problem is they are difficult to accurately judge without undoing them and looking carefully... so ANY clunking is Suspiscious/early warning.
