Don't be too hasty to dump in synth...

I was one of the people who stated "Saab never spent the $ and time to research what synth would do to the autobox".
I had my auto replaced soon after purchasing the car in '01. It was still under warranty, and it had shifting problems. In any event, I wanted synth put in the replacement one since I had planned on modifying the engine output and wanted to protect the "new" tranny. I felt synth would keep the heat down in the case. The Saab Service Mgr, as well as a tech from the Saab Performance Team (here in CT) both stated what I wrote above. They would not recommend it, nor would they deter me from doing it. I opted not to have it done.
I do know that it seems to cause problems in the classic 900 autobox, although that tranny uses Type F fluid (as opposed to Dexron).
If people want to be guinea pigs and submit their experiences to Saab, go for it. I for one would rather not be a tester of an item that costs $3000+ to R&R. Synth has a way of making things too slippery, and in the wrong application, could seep past gaskets and seals.
There are those out there that can vouch for the use of synth in the tranny, and there are those that can provide horrible stories of what happened due to it.
