In it's defence: Are plugs kept in tolerance?

Large gap distance backfeeds to higher voltages in the coil which can cause arc over damage. I now check gap much more often.
The only thing the grease is for is to let the rubber mount slip off of the ceramic easily without pulling an adhered one off and out. This is good to prevent.
It is a semi-complex power electronic device which works in a severe enviroment. Mine has blown but it just ran kinda crappy to get me home and then I smelled the nasty burnt electrical smell (so bad I thought the car had an elect. fire at first). It is a good thing to have on hand.
