anybody good at diagnosing cruise control probs?

I rarely use cruise, but I decided to try it this weekend in my 88. PReviously it did not work AT ALL. But now it works in two circumstances: 1) at about 118kph in 5th, and will only set under light throttle and 2) under half throttle past 130kph. Under this circumstance it will set...and when I take my foot off the gas the car accellerates heavily under about 8 psi of boost to about 140-145kph...then it stops working.

Under both circumstances mentioned above, it will only set, and maintain (or accelerate) for a minute or so, then suddenly disengage.

Where should I start to look for problems? The brake and clutch do in fact work in the disengagement, but that is about as far as I've taken it in terms of diagnosis.

Not the most needed system on our Saabs, but a good one to work at problem solving.
