Never used a torque wrench. On the NGK box you will find instruction of how much of a partial turn to make after finding hand tight. This will compress the gasket sufficiently and not strip the threads. Torque wrench is the perfect way to do it though. Your plugs will be listed in owners manual. I use NAPA for plugs and filters. They can get the plugs next day and use the top line filter they have. Extremely important to wet the gasket with oil so it won't bind upon tightening. I pre fill the filter half way with oil so there is less time for it to fill. Old habit from big filters on farm tractors. The gasket you mention is the one on the drain plug, a copper washer from SAAB. I reuse mine, changing when it is mauled excessively. My Toyota van (long time bye bye)had a plastic washer that original never changed it. You have to have the washer! Now the torque wrench is also used on the drain plug so you don't leave it too loose or too tight.
