Crank Pulley Removal Update

93 9000T automatic. I finally got the crank pulley off. I used a 27mm half inch socket with a breaker bar and a large screwdriver on the flywheel sprocket through the timing hole. It actually wasn't that bad although I had to keep working to lock up the flywheel. I had the Haynes manual with me and couldn't find the crank seal until I realized it came off with the crank pulley. It look thrashed! According to Haynes, I should have then removed the oil pump cover by removing the large circlip. No problem except mine had the older style with the 10 or so bolts. Haynes say the B234 engine has the circlip. In any event, I was sure it was just the crank seal leaking, but since I had the o-ring, I went ahead and pulled the cover off. The o-ring is huge and ends up installed like one of my old Aurora race tracks! It was hard to keep together and when I finally got it all back together, I realized I forgot to prime the pump. Is this a problem. Can I get this car going without having to pull the pump cover off?
TIA Steve
