who is not the most coordinated of kids.
Urby's parking lot trick, with no gas, just easing in the clutch was a good start, but was hard for her to coordinate with easing in the gas.
She didn't "get" the easing in idea. As soon as the clutch grabbed she'd dump the clutch and stall. After many stalls in the lot and on the road, we finally went back to the lot and I grabbed her forearm tight and told her this was her foot on the clutch. Then I gradually eased off the pressure. Did this a few times.
Then she tried with the clutch, no gas. It clicked right away. Then we added gas to the process and she only stalls now on an incline, but only occasionally.
She probably has taken 5000 miles off my clutch, but she now can shift up fine. Still working on downshifts. She's still not licensable (no driver's ed til fall) but is doing much better.
Quite an experience teaching a kid to drive.
Hope this helps.
