I don't have pictures, yet, but will post some Monday, after work. Here's how it went down - I was heading east on rte 2, headed to Boston. When entering onto the highway, it didn't have quite the thrust I'd grown accustomed to. About 5 miles down the road I'd noticed that the gas gauge had fallen off the "full" end, which didn't sound right because I had just filled it yesterday afternoon. So, I pulled over to see what was up. The engine was still running when I popped the hood. I undid the latch, started to lift the hood - pop! A rather intimidating flame appeared! I dropped the hood, ran around and shut the engine off, didn't think to take my powerbook off the passengers' seat, and ran away from the vehicle. Coincidentally, one of my students was passing by with his father and noticed the car - he said he knew it was mine when he saw the wheels. The three of us watched it melt, waiting for the littleton fire dept. to get there. What the fire didn't destroy, the lpd did. And the tow-guy heaped further insult when he picked-up a shovel and scraped all the melted aluminum, rubber, tar, etc. and deposited it onto the recaro's. The fire melted everything from the dash forward: the KJ IC, Fredrik's software, the green giants, the JT, the pp that no one can find in this country anymore, the wheels.......oh well, I guess it's crazy one spends so much psychic energy on a material thing, especially an automobile.

I'm not sure what will happen - I'm at the mercy of the insurance companies now. Fortunately, my agent is someone I've known, socially, for a while. I will definitely buy another 9000, but I doubt I will invest as much, emotionally or economically.........

I wonder if the info' on the hard-drive of the powerbook can be saved?
The powerbook looked fine, except for the soot and water. I had a lot of music and Mathematica programs that can't easily be replaced......
