I had the head off this summer, and there was no carbon at the time. Could such quantities have built up in ~ 5000 miles or so?
I'm going to check plug gap, run some fuel system cleaner through it, etc. I'm suspecting the AMM slightly, I'll throw out a new post with my observations on it.
