Possible Intake Leak in 89 9000CD?

As I was accelerating up a rather steep hill, I heard a pop type sound. Now the car has a distinct hum (lower than turbo whine) while driving that appears to get louder with turbo boost. I can develop boost, but only until the bottom of yellow in the gauge. Also, the car has no trouble idling and drives normally except the hum and the top half of my torque curve.
It appears to be a leak in the intake system, but I have been unable to trace it since the engine is under vacuum at idle and difficult to troubleshoot while moving. Are there any common culprits I should focus on? The seals around the intercooler? Thanks in advance
