what site? Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Wed, 30 Jun 2004 06:18:37 In Reply to: turbo lost!, Jeff'91CDT, Tue, 29 Jun 2004 13:15:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
No, I don't have one. Quasi's site is pretty nice.

When you say the turbo went away, we need a little more info. With the engine off, the boost gauge needle should be right around the gap between white and yellow. With the engine idling, the gauge should be lower, into the white. This is a nice check to make sure the gauge is working.
If you can get the boost gauge needle to get into the yellow, then the turbo is working. That's boost. A totally dead turbo would mean that the engine can only operate at negative pressure (white).
If you can't get the needle out of the white, pull the intake hose off the turbo (engine cold!) and try and spin it with your finger. Check it for play in the bearings.
My guess, you're getting boost (yellow), just not as much as you normally expect. LOTS of reasons for that. If the needle never goes above mid-yellow, that indicates a Base Boost condition. Check the archives for that - lots 'o info. I'd also look around for hoses that have fallen off, or have rotted. It happens. Grab each hose and squeeze, check for cracks, especially at ends. Check the Hooter valve (again, check the archives).
Where does the boost needle go, exactly? Under what conditions?
