9000 cse A/C Fan will not kick in when in Auto or Econ?

I have a 1994 9000 cse.
The A/C fan started to go on and off at free will then stopped altogether. I checked the fan by connecting it to the battery direct and it works fine. I have also checked all the fuses and they are OK, along with the cabin temp unit by cleaning it out, but have not checked the circuit in the unit.
I also checked the compressor by running the fan direct from the battery and at the same time running the compressor while the engin was running, cold air is reaching the cabin.
The intake filter is clean but noticed while checking the filter that the unit with long aluminium fins sitting in the unit next to the chiller rad had it's cable block connector burned out. I replaced the block with individual connectors of the same duty but forgot to note the colour order in which they connect (my second problem)
The car is fitted with a climate control unit in the cabin.
Could you advise me on the sequence of connection and what can I check next so we can desperatly get air in the cabin as the temperature is now a steady 106 deg in Phoenix, HELP!!
