Many have recommended replacing the flexible seat reclining shafts that break. But I had a tough time getting my shaft out and just repaired it as follows for less than $2. I've done this on 3 breaks and it worked every time. It helps to have nibble fingers.
These flexible shafts have a semi-rigid (stiff but flexible) outer covering/sheathing that covers the rotating flexible shaft on the inside. The sheathing of the flexible shafts breaks and allows the flexible shaft to pull away from the connection at the ends.
You can mend the break in this covering but installing a piece of 5/8" OD fuel hose over the break with two hose clamps. The hose pulls the ends of the break together and the hose claps secure it there.
1. Get the seat back straight on the left and right sides….preferably in the most forward position.
2. Locate the break. Raise the seat up, feel around to find the flexible shafts coming out of the motor on each side. Follow the shaft on the side of the seat which no longer works.
3. When you find the break you should be able to pull the ends of the broken sheath together with one hand. Holding this you should be able use the recline switch to move the seat and both sides should move.
4. Remove the four bolts / nuts that fasten the seat to the floor at the rails using a T-50 torx.
5. With the seat free tilt it into the back seat so you can work under the front of the seat.
6. Cut a 3 inch piece of 5/8” OD fuel line (ID of about 5/16”). Slice the hose open lengthwise like a hot dog bun.
7. Opening the slit, install the hose over the cover of the broken cover. You can do this toward the front where it is easy to get at and slide it over the break after.
8. Place two small hose clamps on the hose which is on the broken cover.
9. Slide the hose over the break, pulling the break closed or together and tighten the hose clamps
10. Reinstall the seat.
May be the same for power 900 seats.
