I think the difference of fill up levels has a large point in how your manual calcuations play out. I would trust the trip conputer because it monitors the actual voltage and duration at the injectors, compared to engine load, speed, tank level etc to come up with it.
Some stations fill up more than others, some times temp of fuel plays factor.
I can easily fit another 1-1.5 gal of fuel into my tank ('91 9kT) after it pops, if held at a slower pump rate...
