WOW!
I've spent months and months working on TCS issues on the 92 CD. I finally tired of thinking I had it fixed, only to have it be completely ornery again a few weeks later.
This is the same car that would start up in TCS in the early AM, and then miraculoulsly fix itself when the air temp hit 75F!???
Finally got the nerve and guts to remove the old style TB, and look for frayed/burned wires as per previous posts (thanks!).
When I was removing the 3 screws that hold the "motor" to the metal housing, I noticed that the housing was able to rotate under torque from my bare hands. It had slipped "downwards" in a way that the 7 pin connector was maybe 8 degrees down from vertical. I had noticed this in the vehicle previously...wondering why the engineers had parted from their usual penchant for having everything vertical, but I did not consider that things had slipped into this position.
Upon rotating this black plastic housing back in to position, gluing it firmly in place, and re-installing the TB, the car has worked perfeclly for 2 weeks!!!
I just wonder how many others have had this problem, and replaced their TB for too much money1
The fix would be as simple as reaching in under the connector, grabbing the entire plastic housing and rotating it back up so the connector is completely vertical with the air inlet opening.
I busted 2 of the screw heads of f in the process, but they were of minimal importance. I was also surprised that the aformentioned 3 motor screws would not tighten the black plastic housing along with the motor. Seems to need friction or glue, so this may be a more common issue that needs to be posted here, and may help someone.
At any rate, thanks ALL!!! for your previous help on this issue.
Anyone else ever run in to this????
All my best, Craig (now on to the next issue...timing chain)
