...i'm sorry that happened...
...and your insurance company should be too, they shouldn't treat you like it was your fault and you shouldn't have to pay MUCHO DINERO $$$ for a new intercooler...
...perhaps after this is all said and done, and the intercooler has been replaced, you should think about getting a new poilicy with someone else, unless you get the absolute best price with them.
To talk about insruance for a minute, i am 21 years old, and i have a "troubled" driving histroy, yet with progressive, i STILL only pay $800 a year for liability. And it only goes up to about $1500 (or less depending on deductibles) for FULL COVERAGE!
Geice also has similar rates for me, a few hundred more, but still pretty low...
...so just know that you have OPTIONS... and you tell those suit and tie people who have no emmotions the one thing they DON'T ever want to hear:
"you're not pleased at their level of service, and you're deciding to end your business relationship with them because you're unhappy at how they chose to deal with this manner..."
something like that. Maybe i do that too much, threaten to not be a customer anymore... but i know i have other options, even if it meant something extreme like taking my car off the road for a week, to change insurances...
...i just can't let the companies get away with stuff like that.
I'll talk about insurance later, for not, let's talk about your intercooler...
Let me put it to you this way... if i was going to call ABBOTT RACING in the UK, a maker of high quality EXPENSIVE saab performance parts... and i was going to ask them how much would it cost for an intercooler...
they'd say about $1000... maybe more, maybe less... but about that much.
So, the intercooler THEY make is a drop in HIGH FLOW ALUMINUM MONSTER...
if you were going to spend $800 on an IC, i'd spend it towards getting one of those...
a saab dealerhip prices are SKY HIGH... rediculously high... i just recently hear a term on here that i like, called the "saab STEALERSHIP"
:)
anyways... i am 99% positive, that there would be NO difference between the $120 intercooler from the net, and the $800 intercooler from a dealship.
However, the insurance company probably requires that you get the part from a dealership...
...in this case man, i'd tell you to just bite the bullet: tell the insurance company to eat your shorts, pay $120 for the new intercooler, have it installed, and just move on with your life.
One time, my ex-girlfriend was driving a car that i owned... and she insured.
She was hit by an elderly man in an SUV, and altough it was HIS fault, and we were entitles to free damage repair... the cost of the repairs was estimated at over the value of the car (1993 ford probe)
however, i had replaced the auto tranny, all the brakes, major engine tune ups, and new tires... i was a few grand into this car, and they wanted to setlle with me for $1700, and take the car...(total loss)
however it was in a driveable condition, so i said NO WAY, you have to figure something else out...
...luckily they were a nice company, allstate i think, and they let me keep the car and sent me $1700 anyways... cause i showed them all the receipts of the labor i had put into the car. soo.... nice insurnace companies do exist... go find one!
