- Sounds like the going rate for that type of failure on a Honda (broken timing belt though) from what I have heard.

- Considering that a head gasket replacement is over a $1000 from a shop the price doesn't sound too out of line

- still a lot of $$ to put into a 93 na 9000 unless you plan on driving it for a very long time

How many of the usual 9000 wear components have you aleady done (DI,auto Trans, clutch, fuel pump, serp tensioning system, etc.)

How many KM's ??

That said ... I know that I would drop $4000 into my aero if it needed it in addition to the $2500 I have already spent in the last 18 months ($4500 if you include new wheels and rubber)
