On the 1990 model year, the manual transmission model had an 80 amp alternator, while the automatic had a 115 amp alternator. My manual 1990 turbo has a mechanical belt tensioner (losen the center bolt and then adjust the side bolt). My guess is that the automatic had the hydraulic tensoner, but I don't know. The 115 amp fits on the manual transmission car. I got a 115 amp from a junk yard and swapped the pulley. I used the same belt, though, so it must something besides the actual alternator that affects the belt length.
