With my luck, the heater core should have failed long ago. I had the blower motor replaced at about 155k miles, and at the time, the shop suggested that if the heater core was leaking, it should be replaced. I would have been cool with that, as I'm always up for saving money. However, the shop said at the time the core looked good, so I didn't have it replaced. About four years later I started to have some anti-freeze smell in the cabin. I put some Bars Leaks in and the smell went away permanently. I have the coolant changed every couple years, and put one small bottle of the Bars Leaks in shortly thereafter. There's no sign that the heating/engine cooling system has lost it's effectiveness. I did have the radiator replaced last year, but only because the plastic end tanks had cracked.
