I recommend actually removing the clamps from the battery terminals and cleaning the mating surfaces with some Scotchbrite or fine sandpaper. Just make sure you've got your radio code!
The current flows through the surfaces you don't see, and external cleaning and tightening may not do the trick. It can't hurt.
I suspect the problem is a bad ground behind the dash. It isn't a short, but the current draw of the brake lights lifts the ground a bit and messes other things up.
This isn't a great answer for you, because digging out the ground point isn't easy. And I'm not exactly sure where it is in the '93. Thoughts, anyone?
