Welcome aboard! The 9000CS is a great car. I owned 900s before but 9 months ago traded my '90-900S for a '94-9000. I would advise you to take the car to a SAAB dealer for a 40 point check up (cost me $70)it covers all major safety issues, brakes, suspension, belts, oil leaks, etc. with an estimate for repair.
Since the car is not a turbo, I assume that the timing chain was not stressed too much at high RPM. If the engine idles and revs freely without a chatter or metal slapping noise than it's probably ok. I doubt that a dealer will cover the SRS for free, but you can try if they do other service at the same time. Oil leaks are hard to pin-point unless you clean the engine really well.
Well known issues with the 9000 are:
The heater fan may need replacement and the heater core sooner or later leaks. Check for coolant stains or drips under the passengers dashboard area. Turn the heat at full blast - a sweet smell from the vents is an indication of coolant leak in the heater core (replacement is DIY but tricky and takes time and effort - (did it last week, 4.5 hrs)
Check the A/C function, heating, and ventilation. Choose AUTO on the ACC automatic climate control) and change the temperature from Lo to Hi. The fan should respond quickly and adjust the temperature as chosen.
Check the heated seats - the drivers side often fails and not simple to repair.
Check all power windows and see if the glass moves up and down smoothly without grinding noises. The window track often breaks from the bracket which holds it to the door. Can be repaired if you have an arc welder.
Check all switches on the console: windows, locks, sun-roof they often fail as result of spills.
Make sure the car starts ok when the engine is really hot and after it's been parked for a few minutes.
$2000 sounds very reasonable, but budget a few $100 extra for small things: bushings, alignment, air filter, fluid changes (power steering, transmission) etc. All said it's a great car but needs lots of TLC.
