I've towed a fairly small Coleman for a couple of hundred miles. Many campers are pretty big though. I think part of what you need to look at is windage. If it tucks in nicely behind the 9K and weighs less than 2000lbs, you should be OK.
You say this is a normally aspirated engine? Never hear of a '94CSE that did not have a turbo. If you do have one, may be worth a test of hauling the camper around a bit. If you are regularly bumping into the turbo gauge, then it in probably not good for the turbo.
That has never happened to me. My manual says 1500lbs without brakes and 2000 with, I believe. I've towed pretty close to 2k at speeds of around 75mph. Takes longer to stop, and I can sometimes feel the trailer pushing me around, but it tows well.
