I've owned my '93 CSE since last november, and it made these sounds when I bought it. They don't seem to have any effect on the operation of the car.
Sound 1:
When starting up, after the engine has turned over and started, there's a zip-zip-zipping sound. It happens intermittently, but I am pretty sure it does 3 zips then stops. The zips can be of different lengths. I haven't tried to trace the source of the noise. Since it happens intermittently, I didn't really want to sit there starting and stopping the car repeatedly.
If anything, it sounds like it comes from under the car.
Sound 2:
I usually notice it once I've turned the car off, but in cold weather i'll notice it after starting up, while letting the car warm up. It almost sounds like a horse galluping. I did notice one time that it could be coming from the AC compressor (located in the very front, just behind the windshield wash, right?) It looks like there is some manner of clutch on the belt wheel on the compressor. the belt is flying along, since the engine's running, and there's a disc on the outside of the wheel that seems to catch a little at a time to get some spin. I haven't watched it, but presumably this wheel could have some spin left so it's spinning away after I shut the car off, making the after-shutoff gallup noise.
Do either of these sound familiar? Should I have been worried about them?
