Hi all,
Posted several weeks ago on occasional no start/ sputtering/ dying. Replaced the fuel filter and techron'd the fuel system.
It still happened twice since. Decided to start measuring: No 12v on the fuel pump while crancking, also no 12V on the fuse. Opened the fuel rail at the feed side and sure enough no fuel coming out.
So before I started measuring back to the ECU pins and subsequently to things like CPS (but then the car would not sputter or run for a second or two, would it?, I tried the trick that worked the first time: I closed the fuel rail at the feed side and opened it at the return side, right after the FPR. I crancked the car and it fired up immediately, squirting fuel all over. Closed the rail again and no problems since.
Sooo... what gives here? The only thing I can think of is that somehow the FPR is broken, and air gets into the fuel rail, pushing back the fuel. I gather the fuel tank is below atmosphere, isn't it? OPening the rail at the return side would level the pressure. Is this a stupid idea?
Is there a pressure switch in the system that would prevent 12V from getting to the pump under such circumstances? i cannot find it.
Or is it still possible that one of the check valves gets stuck occasionally?
The car is the 1995 V6 griffin. Fuel system is the same as the IL4, only the rail is a U-shape instead of a straight one. It also does not have the damper on the driver side.
Thanks for any suggestions.
