There is a metal clamp that goes on the edge of the battery mounting basket facing the engine. It uses a single bolt into a threaded hole in the basket. If your battery is too big, it will not work; it has to be able to clamp over the bottom edge of the battery. People often chuck it in the garbage when they install a battery that is too large (wrong group size).

You might get through tech inspection with a heavy duty black rubber bungee cord, but I'd recommend using the stock clamp if you can.
