I started with a 1974 99Wagonback, and currently have two '95 9000s, Aero and CSE. All have been sticks. The reliability and durability have improved greatly with the 'newer' models. I've heard great things about the auto trannies on the 9-3 and 9-5 models currently being sold.

These cars are more complicated than the basic Toyota and Honda, and likely less reliable. With the help of this board and a few tools, I've done most of the work myself. One breakdown when my wife's fuelpump died, and I spent $300 for the expensive repair. Planning on rebuilding Yaofeng's old pump to see if I can do it for only $70.

Staying on top of maintenence has kept me going. All of the Saabs have gone over 100k mi. Almost 200k on my '87 9000.

My take is that they are now stronger, more reliable, and require less maintenence than 10, 20, or 30 years ago. And a lot more comfortable to drive.

I would love to have an old 95 3 cyl wagon as a vintage driver. The old Saabs are what sold me on the car. Incredible handling for it's time, and I think that is still true.
