plugs dirty after techron (long)

Hey guys,
I checked my plugs about a month ago and they were totally clean.
At that point the only driving I had done on the car was about 2000 miles of highway driving. I'm not sure how old the plugs were, but they were gapped a little over 1.1mm which I know is on the large side. The new and old plugs were the correct NGKs. The new ones came gapped at about 1.0mm and that's how I left them. (This change made a significant difference... I feel more joy at WOT! :-)
A week ago I put in a bottle of techron concentrate in when I filled up with Chevron Premium 92.
Since I last did the plugs I have been driving short highways and around town (rarely over 45mph or for over 15 minutes).
I just went to change the plugs yesterday and they had black stuff on them, which I take indicates that I am running rich.
However, is it possible that this is just caused by the techron cleaning stuff out and it getting on the plugs?
If it really does means I'm running rich, why would that be? Does it mean the O2 sensor is bad?
Thanks,
Nick
