Well, if this routine failure is caused by overtorquing the nuts, it is the factory's fault (over many years of assembly). The great majority of 16V cars that we see with broken long exhaust manifold studs have never been apart. We've even seen it on '98 and newer cars with fairly low mileage. If "better clamping force with changing temperature and load" was SAAB's objective in using the longer studs...it didn't work. They are the only studs that ever break!
