You can also use EZ-LOK Posted by Gene N [Email] (#1094) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gene N) on Wed, 8 Dec 2004 08:58:59 In Reply to: Re: AC Bracket bolt Failure - Helicoil, LeonB, Wed, 8 Dec 2004 06:53:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've never had a Helicoil fail on me, but since you can't use one, I would suggest using an EZ-LOK to replace the stripped Helicoil. They are less trouble to install than the TIME-SERT and are more widely available. For mail order, you can get them from McMaster-Carr. You will need to drill and tap the hole, but they require standard tap sizes, which are easily available. You can get a tap from McMaster-Carr at the same time if you don't have one. My guess is that because of the awkward location, the original installer did not have the drill and tap set at the right angle to the head, or perhaps wobbled the drill while installing. A right angle drill is a big help here because of the tight space.
