Clutch failure is relatively easy to diagnose. If after repeated pumping of the pedal fluid leaks out of the transmission bell-housing then the slave cylinder needs to be replaced. If no fluid leakage is seen it it likely a failure of rht eclutch master cylinder. An old worn pedal bushing can also cause this to some extent.

Clutch master is ~$100 and easy to get at. Clutch slave is ~$60 and requires transmission removal to get at. While you're there most people replace the clutch disc, pressure plate, main seal and whatever else looks lonesome.

Pressure-bleeding the system is how most people start their diagnosis.
