I know you distrust posted downpipe figures...
When I talked to Maptun about this, Johnny suggested that adding a JT 3" turbo-back system with catalyser might add 10 bhp to an otherwise standard 2.3 turbo. This would be a 5% improvement. We didn't discuss the dowpipe anly as I have the full system
Tarheel could look at any site publishing specs and figures for different "stages" of tune. These often start with just software, then sortware plus downpipe, then software plus full exhaust system with cat, and so forth, so one can get a sort of idea. A full exhaust could add more than the 10 bhp when combined with a ECU upgrade but the improvement might still only be 5% compared with the ECU plus no exhaust upgrade.
On the other hand, as everyone knows, you can't just add up the suggested bhp improvement figures for each element in a system and arrive at a total figure.
There is also the driveability factor - more torque provides more flexibility, so less need to change gear: also, the point at which you get the extra power is important, and this may vary between manual and automatic cars (and personal preferance).
A year or so ago, I'd just have suggested a JT turbo-back as the default cheap, easy and complete solution. The dollar exchange rate has nuked the "cheap" factor, though!
Ease of fitting? I hired this done and don't regret it.
