Seems to be a common radio issue Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Tue, 28 Dec 2004 11:53:11 In Reply to: Rear Speakers-don't make the same mistakes I made..., Twinsdad, Tue, 28 Dec 2004 11:28:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When I got my (new to me) '97, there was lots of static in the speakers. I had the PO's service records, and there were many trips to the dealer to fix the static. I pulled the radio out, and found that they had wrapped the cables in tinfoil. This is a pretty useless solution.
At the suggestion of others on this BB, I pulled the connectors and sprayed them with contact cleaner. This fixed all of my radio issues. In your case, simply re-seating the connectors acts to clean some of the oxide off, and that was your issue.
I haven't had this issue with older cars (92, 88, etc), but it seems to be an issue with the newer ones. Now, the first time I have a radio issue, I'll simply clean the contacts on the back of the radio.
Look at the bright side - you've got lots of experience getting to things now, just in case they do quit.
