front end "crack noise"

I have a '95 Aero and I've loved the car the day I bought it. It seems that after a rather ugly snowstorm here in OH this winter, the car exhibits a noticable crack sound (like a dry ball joint or tie rod, to me) in the front end when I turn in a right direction and hitting a bump at the same time. It seems that even if I go over a speed bump and happen to be turning into it–and right at the same time, the sound occurs. Even if I'm bearing right down the roadway and hit a bump the cracking sound is there. Sounds like an amplified unibody crack if you follow me. I took it to a local place just to see what it might be (researching price and probable cause). The estimate came back with the front end being "solid" in their words. Either they didn't want to work on it or didn't know what they were looking for, I'm guessing. Would anyone have experienced anything like this or quite possibly know by my description (right) what could possibly be the culprit?
Next step is the shop but I would like to somewhat go in there knowing what's ahead of me.
Thanx,
Rich
