I believe that some people have painted these on the external surface using a flat or semigloss black spray paint made for plastic, or used a plastic prep spray then painted - regular enamel spray paint does not adhere to plastic for very long when exposed to the elements. You could also probably paint it the same color as the rest of the car, but will need to get paint made up. Whatever you do will be an improvement!
