That's probably the same leak as what your seeing. Chances are, like Bob said, its the o-ring where the pump enters the block...no way does the engine need to be pulled, I just had mine done.
As for reliability, you have a 13 year old European car. Its not going to have Japanese reliabilty. Parts are expensive, and things do break. Especially after 13 years. So definitely expect to spend some money on the car, especially since you just bought it. '92 wasn't the greatest year for reliability either...But the car itself is extremely durable and will last a good long time if well cared for. My '95 is just broken in at 135k miles.
