Thought they used resistors in 1988?

I thought the ACC with the solid state blower motor controller was used from 93 or so, with the prior years using a dropping resistor.
eeuroparts.com shows this item as being applicable for 1988, a big honking power resistor with the thermal fuse,
If your blower is locked onto high no matter what you do (except for pulling out the fuse for the blower motor), it does sound like what happens when the solid state transistor controller gets shorted. Normally, it varies the resistance from the blower motor to ground, under control of the ACC signal.
In my case, it went the other way, and failed open, so I wasn't getting any blower action at all. As a temporary measure, I just grounded that side of the blower motor, and control the fan speed by putting a half ohm resistance in line at the fuse with a relay, controlled manually. Low buck workaround, anyway.
