Rmc You did not say if you added fuel to the filter and shake it around and drain it again ? The compression test results appear OK if every cylinder came up in 2 seconds.Wix filter is ok,it might be a Bosch in the box.The brass flakes i don't know where in the car they would come from-most likely the tanker truck fitings when they drop the gas in the ground at the gas stations. The aluminum from the end plates of the main intank fuel pump, and the nozzel on the gas station pump, rubbing in and out in the hole in the car's filler plate. The brown rust sediment is what concerns me the most it's fine enough to work it's way to the internal working of the injectors, and collect in the magnectic field at the winding area of the injectors. It would slow down the injector's responce to opening and closing and therefore it's flow rate...
I would pull the fuel pump out of the tank and clean out the tank with the mini vac pump set up with a cup ahead of the pump to collect the gas. It's the only way to get remove the in tank rust.Others wise it's going to come back and bite you later.
