Someone asked about this on the performance board. The 2L and 2.3L engines have the same size bore. The increased displacement comes from a longer stroke, which means that crank needs a larger circle to operate in. The lower part of 2L block and the sump don't support the larger throw of the crank, i.e., the crank will it the side of the block.
Ask the question about swaping heads on the performance board. Apparently the 2.3L head has better breathing, which will help if you are making other modifications to the engine. Just by itself, I don't think you will see huge gains from a 2.3L head.
