Aaron,
Thank you for the comments and reply!
Most of your more progressively modified cylinder heads will still keep intake and exhaust ports close to 90% of the respective valve head size. Anything larger than this will only reduce flow velocity and would substantially reduce portal flow capabilities. In keeping these 90% dimensions, flow is dramatically improved by eliminating restrictions. On a ported cylinder head, the 2.0 liter will always outflow the ported 2.1/2.3 liter casting. A major reason for this is a substantial reduction of short turn radius (sharp turn directly under valve seat). A reason for the trend towards the 2.1/2.3 liter cylinder head castings is that modifications would reduce nearly 40% of effort/work over porting the 2.0 liter counterpart. In short, Modifying the 2.1/2.3l cylinder head is a simple update and there is very little work to bring ports to relative sizing...the downside is that the short turn radius on the 2.1/2.3 causes more turbulence and a reduction in flow properties by as much as 7% at some lift points.
If you send us an Email, we can send flow #s and photos of the short turn radius of both the 2.0 and 2.1/2.3 liter cylinder heads.
There is much more information relative to valve sizing, intake manifold plenum size, etc. but we can address this another time.
Best Regards!,
GaryK at SWEDISH DYNAMICS,INC.
