Impact wrenches not suited for final torquing

They have torque bars to limit the impact torque to a specified value, but it's not worth spending the bucks for them; generally you should use the impact wrench only to spin the fasteners to snug them up, and do the final torquing with a torque wrench or however you usually use them.
I find the impact wrench invaluable to speed things along for disassembly; zip gun whips them right off. Reassembly is where you have to be careful- judicious use of the throttle is called for.
I tend to use the 1/2" impact wrench the most, with the 3/8" butterfly impact also being very handy. The 3/8" air ratchet I have doesn't see as much use, because it doesn't have as big a speed advantage as the impact wrenches, and I usually don't like dealing with the air hose and attendant clumsiness. Of course, it depends on the particular situation, because there are times when you need it for limited clearance access. I might use it more if I got one of those reactionless air ratchets, because the regular air ratchets can be knuckle busters if you don't watch out.
