The O2 sensor wouldn't make the car undriveable. I'd try checking the AMM - check out this post:

I assume that the engine just isn't responding to the throttle. That would be a sign of a bad AMM. If you can rev it, but after it's rev'd for a bit it dies, that might be a clogged fuel filter. Unlikely with rich running.
