My Saabs go back to a 1966 850 GT 2-stroke model 93 which was a SAAB,then Sonnett's(Ford V-4),99's(triumph's il-4),900's,and 9000's.
THE Saab inline 4 cylinder turbo(cast iron block)had reach a level of design refinements that few other production motors have achieved. That motor was one of a few motor designs that would achive 300,000 miles with resonable care.I can't say that for the new all aluminum motors.
What i miss is the early Saab design features,a floor pans where every thing was up inside it,not hanging down to be ripped off.Swedish roads were mostly unpaved,Saabs were early SUV's that were offroadable and could go any where. If you stuff the nose in a snow bank or bash thur a unplowed road you did not leave $3000+ of plastic parts behind in the snow or mud.Windshields you could replace yourself and were designed to pop out in a crash.Ture rollbars built into the front pillar post tied into metal wheelwell structures-you could roll the car over rather avoid a frontal crash, and then drive it away, after you push it back over on it's wheels. That's what i miss....
