I am considering installing 17" rims on my 91 9kt and would like some input. I recently installed the Taliaferro Sport (aero) suspension along with poly frt and rear sway bar bushings and control arm bushings and run 16" rims with stock sized tires. I am very pleased with the current balance of ride and handling, but like the appearance of 17" rims over my current 16". I am considering purchasing a set of Ronal R-38 17's.

Earlier, I ran 17" rims that were heavier than the ronals (25 vs 22 lbs) with my original suspension that had 140k miles. I had all of the original bushings at that time as well, but they were in good condition. Anyway, I noticed that when I switched to 17" rims from the 16" rims, the suspension seemed to be too soft to keep up with the quicker turn in of the shorter sidewall of the 17" wheels. The car felt clumsy and unbalanced to me, and I was not happy at all with how it handled. As a result, I sold the 17" rims and returned to 16".

I am now seriously thinking of going to 17" rims and I'm wondering whether I'm going to be dissatisfied even though, this time around, I will have ligher rims, a fresh suspension and poly bushings on the sway bars and front control arm. I don't want to repeat the same mistake I made earlier. The bottom line is that I don't know how much these differences in my situation around will change the outcome.

What are the feelings of Aero owners who went to 17" rims? Do you feel like you lost the balance that you had when running 16" rims? Did the ride deteriorate significantly? Was the suspension able to keep up with the quicker turn in of the shorter sidewall's required with the 17" rims. Thanks for your thoughts,
Dan
