Salutations:
I am able to repeat the same sort of thing on deceleration sometimes (1993 Aero 5 speed).
Basically - on a medium down hill incline using engine braking, there comes a point around 1,900rpm where it feels like it has opened an intake butterfly and the roll resistance changes/slips slightly. If it was an automatic - I would put it down to a pressure switch in the tranny.
I wonder if the two are related somehow given the fuel/air mix is logic controlled? Or perhaps the boost controller switching over?
