I took a $40 PC sub/tweeter combo apart and thought if the sound can fill my den, why not the interior of a car. I swapped some beat tweeters on an old pick up with satellite horns from a PC setup and they sound fine to my ears. Granted I have larger 4" speakers set on the floor in a homemade box and settle the differences with the stock fader (no extra amp).

I'm thinking you could transplant a sub/horn system designed for a PC and make it work within the confines of an auto environment. Then you wouldn't have to pay through the nose for all the extra crap the funkin' hip-hop cruisers use. I'm not trying to break eardrums, just reproduce sound well without breaking the bank.
