I only was able to get it to pull into the red a couple of times and only for short spurts (city traffic) - then I parked it for supper and first report. On the second run, while the cruise worked fine again - the boost was locked back as per normal on a highway run. So you are completely right, the controller must be flaky.

I am wondering if there anything is repairable in the BPC valve itself - or is it a complete wash out at this time? If it is just a matter of crud build-up causing a short, I think I could get it opened up enough to clean it out.

Did you bother to do a post mortem on your BPC? These things are alarmingly expensive and I'm willing to wager that an MBC is not likely going to work nearly as well in everyday driving.

Moreover - this seems to be a sort of failure prone part based on some searches here. I would seriously like to understand why this seems to be the case before springing for another one. It's a fused circuit according to the schematic - so I don't understand how it should come to get fried outright.
