Dead Aero...

Driving home last night, our 94 Aero died while getting on to the freeway. On the last 25 mile leg of a 200 mile round trip, there was a "Pop" and then a total loss of power. We initially thought the Serp Belt broke, but it's still fine and tension seems to be normal.
After being towed home, I checked some basic things and couldn't find much wrong. The plugs looked good, the compression was around 175 on all 4 cylinders, and I could smell fuel coming into all 4 cylinders. The DI cassette has no leaks or other indication of problems. I checked all the fuses inside the engine and passenger compartments and none were blown. Cranking the engine over, the tach stayed pegged at 0 until after the 4th revolution, then showed a consistent 100 until the cranking stopped. I've read that the CPS will pulse the tach as the engine cranks, but I've read read that a non pulsing tach doesn't mean the CPS is bad.
What other sensor could cause a complete shut down? Most sensor failures should drop the car into limp-home mode, right? The engine cranks over well, but doesn't even hint of firing. It was also running perfectly before the failure.
Any help is greatly appreciated, as always.
