First, thanks for the kind words. Good to hear after all of the slaving away on this project.

I did a quick write-up on the wheel refinish job a couple of weeks ago. Search the BB for "Refinished Aero wheels" and it should come up.

The first thing I did was have the wheels checked for cracks and straightened by a pro. I figured I didn't want to work on bad wheels. Then I had the guy turn the lips on the wheels with a metal lathe to rid the lips of the clearcoat and get rid of some dings. Cost me about $150 bucks I think. But you could skip all this and just strip the clear your self if you know your wheels are solid.

The painting process was long but simple. First, sanded the old paint, not totally off, but pretty well with some 220. Then used a filler primer to fill all the scratches, then wet sanded with 600. Repeated this until smooth. Cleaned with paint prep cleaner, then started laying down the color coat. Wet sanded with 1000 grit after last coat, then rubbed out with rubbing compound (turtle wax). Then 3 coats of clear.

The lips I wet sanded with 400, then 600, then with varying grades of steel wool until they were shiny. Polished with a spiral sewn buff and some jewler's rouge. Mother's metal and hand probably would have done pretty well also.

And that's it! Whew!
