Hi all. About to buy my first saab! I should be taking delivery tomorrow. Im super excited. The car has 200k, but the price is really right. And the person selling is delivering it. Its a 9000s hatch, 5sp. Not my first sweedish car, so I know what im getting into. Anyways. Im doing a bit of research on quasimotors, and found the balance chain crank sprocket problem.
how big a deal is this...... does anybody ever make it past 250k ? Luckily im mechanically handy, and this is part of why im excited about the saab, I do enjoy doing my own work. Im thinking I might just drive it until it stops with the balance chain crank sprocket failure. Honestly the whole being stranded part worries me a lot more than dealing with fixing whats wrong. Since the cars a non turbo, engines are cheap, and it sounds like its easy to pull an engine on a saab. I guess its not the 8 hours of book labor to pull an engine on a volvo.
now the real quuestion. I cant seem to find info on engines. Can one put a 90 engine (id assume without the balance chain sprocket problem) in the car? Is putting a turbo engine in a big deal?
also: the seller said the door doesnt unlock or something. Any tricks? I just plan on tearing into it when I get it, but anything that I should know?
thanks so much! (i'll post pictures and signup for real when i have the car in my grubby little hands, hehe)
