quite often faults with these seem to show up as a hesitation/stuttering at lower revs, not necessarily under throttle either.

You probably know lots about 9000s but as you haven't posted before, we can't assume anything - forgive, please. But if you think your problem is ignition-related, here are some ideas.

The plugs are probably the first thing to do - starting by looking at the ones you've got, to see if they are the correct NGK BCPR7-ES. The Trionic engine management system needs these (or a tiny handful of esoteric alternatives) to work properly. Plugs are cheap so junk them anyway and gap to say .9mm (opinions vary - up to 1.1mm).

If that doesn't work, try some better fuel. Your Aero deserves something decent, from a filling station that sells plenty of the stuff.

Another cheap fix is to check all your vacuum hoses for leaks, either on the hoses themselves or at joints. You could also check that the PCV = positive crankcase ventilation yalve (greyish cylinder thingy in line along the top of the inlet manifold) is working correctly, ie. that it is one-way from crankcase to inlet manifold and not in reverse. Like Clinton, don't inhale.

Next suspect, perhaps the BPC = boost pressure control valve, black plastic, mounted on the radiator with three hoses to it. Try unplugging it and measuring the resistance between pins 1-2 and 2-3 with a meter. A small resistance of 3 ohms would be about right (figures between 2 and 3.6 have been mentioned on this board). If you aren't sure about the health of the BPV, suggest you borrow one from another Saab and try that - any sensible independent servicing workshop should lend you one.

Same goes for the DI, which is where we came in. These things cost lots of loot so you borrow one and try it out.

Hope some of this helps!
